"From Stage to Screen" Professional Development Program

The New York Conservatory’s “From Stage to Screen” Professional Development Program is an opportunity to spend two weeks in NYC working on your craft, meeting fellow actors, making important connections, and adding a professional clip to your reel!

“From Stage to Screen” Two-Week Professional Development Program 

In our Professional Development Program, you’ll focus on:

→ Reviewing the fundamentals of physical and vocal behavior for stage and for the camera
→ Working with New York Conservatory Faculty and Director on process for the camera

And, you’ll leave with:

→ A professionally produced scene for your reel

Note: For the Professional Development Programs, International participants may enter the U.S. on either the B1/B2 visa or ESTA as this would be considered recreational study not for credit or certification by USCIS.

Professional Development Programs are open to those 18 and older with performance experience

Dates:

  • Monday, January 6, 2025 – Thursday, January 16, 2025, including classes on Saturday, January 11, 2025

Cost: $3,000 per participant

  • Housing Available: Up to 4-bed, suite-style rooms with private bath and kitchenette. Location within NYC boroughs. Arrangements can be made with The New York Conservatory to book space in our Residence Hall for an additional $800 (plus a refundable $200. damage deposit).

Program Highlights:

  • Practice daily physical and vocal warm-ups to tune up your actor instrument
  • Explore the acting techniques of Uta Hagen
  • Develop a process for text analysis that immediately translates to physical and vocal behavior for the stage and camera
  • Engage in the process of what happens on a film set- Crew Positions, Calls, Technical Terminology, Flow of Day
  • Stage a final scene for the theater and adapt it for the screen
  • Shoot final scene with a professional crew to include on your reel
  • Experience NYC for a reasonable rate including housing

Registration Requirements:

  • Simple registration form
  • Uploaded video of 1-minute monologue
  • Headshot and resume (if applicable)

Curriculum:

  • Physical and Vocal Behavior for the Camera with New York Conservatory Faculty
  • Work with New York Conservatory Faculty on Process for the Camera
  • Workshop scenes for the stage and adapt them for the screen in Scene Study
  • NYC Shoot with NYCDA Faculty and Film Director
